I enjoyed 'The King's Picture'. I was surprised to read it here - for the first time - despite the 100's of thousand's of English Literature that I have read over the years. Thank you for that! - Peter

THE HIGHER ROAD

The higher road of faith ‘not clear’

Beneath a load of pain weighing me down

Of Your unchanging love I'm assured

Still I tread on hard strange ground

Shadows fall as the darkness brings

Difficult thoughts to my own

They fuel a thirst for warm things

And touch the earth where faith was sown

An anxious mind, a wandering heart

Shepherd friend - lead me away from here

Vanquish every flaming dart

Chase away the crippling fear

Touch me tonight with light and love

Clear the shrubbery of my doubt

Your loving way make clear - mine heart

Casting all my sad presumption out

My prayer of supplication given true

In confidence the struggles cease

I touch the love of Your Word

And my poor strife is swallowed in Peace!
